i think the round shape for jewelries, particularly for rings, was made popular due to its symbolical meaning of eternity or never-ending love. that's why the traditional wedding bands are made without a stone or if stones would be included, they would have to be placed all around the band to maintain continuity. as a circle has no beginning and no end, it has become a popular shape for jewelries that are meant to represent love. in our country, it is believed that wedding rings which have stones not set around the ring but on one part or certain parts only would mean that the couple will eventually have a broken marriage. i don't believe on it though but my husband and I just followed our tradition and bought a pair of simple wedding band with small diamond stones all over the ring for us to wear and to represent our love for one another.
