The 4 C’s of Diamonds: Cut, Color, Clarity, Carat

If you’re looking for a diamond ring, or just looking for a diamond to put in a setting that you already have, you’ll want to look at the four Cs. Those are cut, color, clarity, and carat weight. All of them are important and they all work together to give you the diamond that you want.

The cut can be anything from a standard round shape to something very unique like an Asscher cut diamond, and everything in between.

The color refers to how white or yellow the diamond is, and different colors affect the price of the stone.

The clarity of a diamond addresses issues like whether it’s cloudy or whether there are problems with it like imperfections. If they can be seen with a naked eye this is more significant than if they need a jeweler’s loop to be noticed.

The carat weight refers to the size of the diamond. All other things being equal, the larger the diamond the more it costs, so you might want to go with a clear, no-color, well-cut diamond that has lower carat weight over something larger but poorer quality.
